Personal Care Assistants (PCA) Choice
PCA services are available through personal care provider organizations and agencies. Traditional PCA agencies are responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, managing, and scheduling PCA’s for the recipient.
With a recipient directed PCA Choice program, the person with a disability chooses to have more control of their services and take more responsibility for their daily cares.
With a PCA Choice Program the recipient is responsible for hiring their PCA’s, determining pay rate, supervising and evaluating their PCA’s, scheduling, and training.
Is PCA Choice Right for You?
To participate in the PCA Choice Program you should:
- Be independent.
- Have a desire to:
- Interview, hire, and manage your own PCA's.
- Self-direct (train and schedule) your PCA cares.
- Create and maintain your own PCA schedule.
- Realize the time and process needed to participate in the PCA Choice option:
- Do you want the responsibility of finding, hiring, and supervising your own staff?
- Do you want and are you capable to be in direct control of your own care?
- Do you have a plan in place if your regular PCA's are unable to work or are you able to create a back-up plan if you do not currently have one?
- Do you want greater flexibility in scheduling your PCA's?
